Protecting your identity and your anonymity on the web

With all data breaches and unauthorized data surveillance is it possible to protect yourself and your family? The New York Times reported on blogger Brian Krebs Reporting from the Web’s Underbelly, one of the recognized experts in cyber criminal syndicates. His blog Krebs on Security is surprisingly readable for the non-techie, with easily comprehendable information on Apple operating systems and network hardware. Julia Angwin, a former Wall Street Journal reporter, in How to Protect Your Kid’s Privacy Online, highlights privacy protecting software like DuckDuckgo, for anoymous searching and Disconnect Kids which which blocks mobile tracking companies from seeing internet traffic on mobile devices. These applications are easy enough for a child to use, which means that adults can and should be using them too.
